Visual motion processing takes place mainly in the Magnocellular pathway,
a hierarchy composed of the M-type (Parasol) ganglion cells in the retina,
the two ventral M-type layers in the LGN, the 4
and 4B layers
in V1, and the extrastriate middle temporal area (MT), and the
medial superior temporal area (MST). These cortical areas form the so
called where or dorsal pathway (in contrast to the what or
ventral pathway leading to the interiotemporal lobe).
