In the retina, as well as some cortical areas such as V1 and a few prestriate (extrostriate) cortical areas (V2, V3), the visual field is represented topographically, meaning the topology of the points in the field is reserved in the representation of the field in the retina and some visual areas in the cortex. However, visual areas beyond V3 are progressively less regularly orgonized (V4, V5, V6, etc.).
