Gallery Three: Old Buildings

One of my favorite subjects is old buildings. First of all, they seem to have more character than new buildings; but secondly, they have unique histories that are often apparent in their external parts. Images of old buildings seem to look back through time, and both textures and colors reflect a kind of re-alignment with nature.

The area from Mammoth Lakes north to Bodie (a gold mining ghost town) is home to many photographic possibilities; but the entire expanse of US 395 from San Bernardino to Reno is full of old communities, many of them crumbling as we watch. My own home town, Claremont, has a great deal of history in citrus agriculture; and some of it is still to be seen, though disappearing all too fast.

Some of these images were created with my Nikon N80 in 35 mm color transparency film (Fugichrome Velvia (iso 50) and Kodak E100VS (iso 100)). Others were created with a Nikon digital camera, "coolpix" E995, using the HI resolution 3.1 megapixel setting.
