Mus 67 Film Music
Assignment 2

Due Wednesday 2/3 11:59 p.m.

Harvey Mudd College, Spring 2021

Because we meet only once a week, we will have an entire week's worth of homework due with every assignment. I strongly suggest that you space out the various assignments due, rather than leaving it all to the night of the due date. Not only will this allow you to manage your time more efficiently, it will also benefit your learning of this material and will enable me to help you in case there are any technical difficulties accessing the sites required below. PROBLEMS ACCESSING THE WEB PAGES THE NIGHT OF THE DUE DATE MAY NOT BE GROUNDS FOR AN EXTENSION OF THE ASSIGNMENT. As explained below, quizzes may be taken more than once, so the earlier you get started, the more time you will have to prepare and take a quiz multiple times if necessary.
  1. Read Roger Hickman, Reel Music (your textbook), 1st ed. chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, and 14 or 2nd ed. chapters 1-2, 9, 170-175. Pay careful attention to the film and music terms explained in chapters 2 and 3, as they will be the subject of some of the quizzes below.

  2. Read the Music Fundamentals web pages parts 1 through 7. (We'll save part 8 on for next time.) You can also find this link on the Sakai Resources page. I do not recommend trying to view these pages from a phone-size screen. Be sure you understand the terms before you go on. You may want to take notes, though you may not use these notes while you are taking the quizzes below.

  3. you should have received an email titled "Melos Account Activation."" If you find it, please click on the link to select a password and activate your account for the quiz software we'll be using for this course. If you can't find the email, please check your spam filters. If you still can't find it or have other problems or questions, please let me know. Once your account is activated and you can log into this site, you should see Lesson #1 available to you. It consists of three short quizzes, which you need to complete by the above due date. This link is also on the Sakai Resources page. You can take each quiz as many times as you like, and only the last grade will be recorded.
