Please note! You will have to be logged into Google using your g.hmc.edu credentials in order to access the videos. If you did not or can't find them, please email the CIS Help Desk (helpdesk@g.hmc.edu) as soon as possible.
  1. Watch--and take notes as you do--Lecture 2: Styles of Early Film Music (7:40).

  2. Here are some questions to remind yourself of important points in the video:
    • In what ways does "classic" Romanticism differ from Wagnerism?
    • With what countries are these styles often associated?
    • How would you describe some differences or similarities between Verismo and Impressionism?
    • What are some innovations or characteristic features associated with Wagner's operas?

  3. Log onto Sakai->Forums->Response to video lecture 2. Post a response to the video of at least 200 words in which you imagine a film scene that would be appropriate for each of the four styles outlined in the video and say why. Feel free to include any other thoughts or commentary on this topic. At the end, include any questions you have about the video or the issues it raises.

  4. Fill out this form about your background. This course has no prerequisities, and I don't expect any prior experience with either music or film analysis. Nevertheless, it is helpful for me to know something about what background you do have.
